I. J. Sampson Open Chess Tournament

Sunday October 14^th, 2007

Venue:	I. J. Sampson Junior High School, 50 Bennett Avenue, St. John's. (Near St. Claire’s hospital)
Registration:	9:30 PM to 10:00 AM (sharp).
Format:	5 rounds Swiss pairing. See below for time controls.
Entry Fee:	$10.00 per player

The tournament will be open to all grades (K-12). Each player will compete in one of the following sections:

Section 1	Grades K to 3	20 mins per player per game
Section 2	Grades 4 to 6	30 mins per player per game
Section 3	Grades 7 to 12	30 mins per player per game

Medals will be awarded to the top three players in sections 1 and 2. There will be a cash prize fro section 3 based on attendance. There will also be awards for the best performance in each sections 1 and 2. Finalist Pins will be awarded to all other players engaged in tie-break games.

The event will rated by Chess’n Math. One requested half point bye will be available per player provided the request is made to the tournament director before players are paired for the round for which the bye is desired.

Important Note to Parents:

All tournament participants must be supervised by a parent or designated guardian. Neither the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association (NLSCA) nor I. J. Sampson Junior High School will be held responsible for the safety or behaviour of participants not actively engaged in tournament play.
