The tournament will be open to all grades (K-12). Each player will compete in one of the following sections:

Section 1 |
Grades K to 3 – Newcomers |
20 mins per player per game |
|
Section 2 |
Grades K to 3 – Rated players |
20 mins per player per game |
|
Section 3 |
Grades 4 to 6 |
30 mins per player per game |
|
Section 4 |
Grades 7 to 12 |
30 mins per player per game |
Medals will be awarded to the top three players in each section. There will also be awards for the best performance by a rated player and best performance by an unrated player. Finalist Pins will be awarded to all other players engaged in tie-break games.
A canteen service will be available. The event will rated by Chess’n Math. One requested half point bye will be available per player provided the request is made to the tournament director before players are paired for the round for which the bye is desired.
Important Note to Parents:
All tournament participants must be supervised by a parent or designated guardian. Neither the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association (NLSCA) nor Cowan Heights Elementary School will be held responsible for the safety or behaviour of participants not actively engaged in tournament play.
