NLSCA School Team Chess Championship

Location

Queen Elizabeth Regional High School, Foxtrap Access Road.  Foxtrap.  (See the Map).

Fees

$10 per player.

Registration

9:15 AM to 10:00 AM

Pre-Registration

No pre-registration.   All teams and players must register at the door on the day of the tournament.

Sections

Four sections:

  • Primary Section: K to 3  

  • Elementary Section Grades 4 to 6

  • Junior High  Section: Grades 7 to 9

  • High School Section: Grades 10 to 12

Format

Five (5) rounds, Swiss format.

Schedule

Registration will close at 10:00 AM.

Last round should finish by 4:00 PM.

Time Controls

30 minutes per player per game.  Tiebreaks will be conducted in accordance with NLSCA rules.

Prizes

Championship teams will receive a perpetual trophy for one year and a permanent championship banner to be kept by school for one year.  Gold, silver and bronze medals for all top 3 teams in each section. Medals for top board players as well for each section. 

Notes

Teams are to consist of a maximum of four (4) players. Players on a team must be listed in order from highest rated to lowest rated according to their Chess’n Math rating. Players can be from different grade levels – however the players must play within their designated section.    There is no limit as to the number of teams a school may enter. All players on a team must come from the same school.

Note to Parents: All tournament participants must be supervised by a parent or designated guardian. Neither the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association (NLSCA) nor Queen Eleizabeth Regional High School will be held responsible for the safety or behaviour of participants not actively engaged in tournament play. The responsibility of the tournament organizers will be limited to ensuring fair competition in accordance with NLSCA tournament rules.
