Q. When did you first start playing
chess?
When I was about 10 years old.
Q. Do you prefer the white piece
or the black pieces?
White of course!
Q. What are your favourite openings?
Anything that's sharp but sound.
Q. What are your thoughts on chess
in Newfoundland compared to chess in other provinces (if applicable)?
The players here are tough, probably
slightly underrated compared to say Ontario standards. You're
always in for a tough fight. We have an excellent community
for such a small group of players.
Q. Has chess helped you develop other
skills in life?
I use many of the same skills doing
my math degree that I use over the chessboard.
Q. Do you have any advice you could
offer to any aspiring players?
If you want to improve quickly, it takes
a lot of work, but never forget that you play for fun! As long
as you enjoy it, it never seems like you're working too hard.
