Aman Hambleton

One of our brightest young chess players headed off to sunny Greece to take part in the World Youth Chess Championship for two weeks in November 2004. He was competing for Canada in the Under 12 category. He was amongst one of the 3 qualified to compete at the National CYCC in July in Kapuskasing in 2004.

Aman has been a wonderful expert level player winning most of our regular events, and our prizes of course since he moved from PEI 2 in 2002. His recent NL tournament results can be traced via the link above. Since he came to NL, his CFC rating has made a quantum leap from “1238” in March 2003 to “1964”, his current highest attained rating in September 2004. He is our NL Junior Champion in 2003 & 2004 and was our Grade 7 NL champion competing at the National Scholastic Chess Challenge held in Winnipeg in May 2004 to win a 2nd place trophy, one of the 4 won by our team in 2004.

On behalf of all our regular players in St. John’s, I wish him all the best and luck in his biggest event in his chess career so far. Alick Tsui, NLCA.
